Composer, conductor, songwriter, violinist and teacher, educated at the Chicago Musical College and the Ecole Normal de Musique in Paris. He studied with Emile Sauret, Hugo Heerman, Jeno Hubay, Ottokar Sevcic, and Max d'Ollone. He made his debut as a violinist in Chicago in 1911, and gave recitals throughout the midwest and west coast. He was first-violinist for the Cincinnati Symphony in 1912-1913, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 1922-1923. He composed and arranged for films between 1921 and 1924. He conducted the orchestra for the Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn Ballet in 1929-1930, the Peoria Symphony between 1942-1943, and the Champaign-Urbana Community-Arts Orchestra between 1951-1952. In 1936, he was on the faculty of the Interlochen National Music Camp, and was the music director of the Springdale School in Canton, NC, 1944-1949, the Asheville School for Boys, 1955-1959, and Roosevelt School in Stamford, Connecticut, 1959-1962, and also a member of MacDowell College. Joining ASCAP in 1944, his song compositions include "The White Swan" and "Gethsemane". Sol Cohen also used the professional name "Andre Vaneuf".- Composer
